What was the environment like when the polynesians arrived to New Zealand?

A lot of areas would have been densley forested and wooded, the moa birds would have existed too. I think it would have mostly looked how a lot of it does now, just go somewhere in NZ which hasn't got any settlements or farmland and thats probably how it would of looked like.
