Can you mail nuts or cosmetics to and from the US to Switzerland?

My mom sent me (to Switzerland) nuts once and I never recieved them, wondering if they were interceded by customs and I would like to have her send makeup from there but do not want trouble. The last package I sent her took a month to get there!!!! How do I cirvent these slow downs?
