Should I download the Standard or HD version of a show on iTunes?

I would probably only watch it on my iPod touch or MacBook so is the HD version worth the extra space it takes up or is the difference pretty minuscule? At this point, the price isn't an issue. Also, I know in the past if you downloaded an HD version you automatically got the standard version as well, does this still apply? Thanks in advance!
