Desperate! Need San Diego or La Jolla Hotel recommendation.?

We will be in LA soon, and want to drive down to San Diego to see the zoo for one day. I would love to stay at a private little inn or B&B on the way with a view of the ocean, but preferably close to San Diego. I'm imagining the hotel in "Same Time Next Year" (but it's in Mendocino, so that's out). If you can't recommend that, another thing we love is rustic, western, pioneering kinds of places. If you know of a dude ranch or mission-sort of place, I'll take that too. OR, we could do a historic spanish-influence sort of hotel with terra cotta tiles and the whole bit. Please help!
